SAPRI

About project

SAPRI is the website revamp for the South Asia Policy and Research Institute, a non-profit, non-partisan think tank in Colombo. Through Wayform, I designed and developed a site that tells donors, policymakers and researchers who SAPRI is within seconds, then leads them into its focus areas, projects, publications and media.

Built with Next.js and React from a Figma design system set up around SAPRI's new flame logo: black and white, with the flame gradient as the only colour. Highlights include an interactive Sri Lanka map that reveals SAPRI's reach district by district, impact numbers up front, and a library that brings the Aloka journals online.

Overview

The brief came down to one test: a first-time visitor should know what SAPRI is in under ten seconds. So the home page is a single scroll that answers three questions in order: who SAPRI is, where it works and what it has done. About, Publications and Media then go deeper for anyone who wants the detail.

The Problem

SAPRI speaks to donors, policymakers, researchers and journalists, and each of them arrives looking for something different. Much of its 15-year history also lived in print, with older Aloka publications and event photos that were hard to bring online. We needed one site that felt credible from the first screen and could hold an archive that was far from tidy, in time for a donor presentation.

Process

Research

Pulled the client brief, meeting notes and chats into one map of every page and block

Define

Narrowed the sitemap to a long home page, About, Publications, Media and Contact

Brand

Set a design system from the new flame logo: black, white and a single gradient

Design

Designed every section in Figma, shared for comments and sign-off from the chairperson

Build

Developed the site in Next.js and React, with a clickable SVG map of the districts

Publish

Brought the Aloka publications, newsletters and press coverage into one place

Learnings

L01

A map shows reach faster than text

L02

Untidy archives need structure first

L03

One colour earns more attention

Outcomes

The new site is live at sapri.lk, carrying SAPRI's focus areas, district reach, projects, SDG alignment, publications and press coverage in one place. Next on the list are the Sinhala and Tamil versions planned in the brief.
